The Iowa City Moose Legion Committee is preparing some upcoming raffles. I know everyone will want to get plenty of chances. Check with any Moose Legion member for tickets.

Drawing will be Sunday, September 5th after our annual golf tournament. Chances are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. What golf tournament? It is the annual Labor Day tournament. Find a partner and sign up at the lodge. 2 person best ball.

One night stay at the Holiday Inn Coralville and Brunch
Drawing will be at half time of the Iowa home coming game on October 2nd. Chances are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.

Drawing will be Saturday October 30th after the shadow box drawing. Chances are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. You do not need to be present to win.

Cash Raffle
Cedar Valley Moose Legion 141 is running a cash raffle tickets are $10.00 each. Pay outs are 1st draw $50.00, 2nd draw $75.00, and 3rd draw is $100. The winning tickets of the 1st and 2nd draw are put back into the drawing bucket so one person could win all three cash prizes. The lodges of Cedar Valley Moose Legion 141 only have 10 tickets each so if you want one you need to see Doug Green. Drawing will be October 16 at the Moose Legion Meeting in Clinton, Iowa.

This has been an exciting month. The Iowa Home came to visit Eastern Iowa for a week, and visited six Lodges. We would like to thank Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Clinton, Fort Madison, Burlington and Dubuque Lodges for all they did to make it a memorable trip for them.

They arrived in Iowa City Sunday noon and feasted on the Taco Bar that the NASCAR group prepared. Ken Harrison and his family did most of the cooking. Tina and Cami from the Ames Chapter were waiting to meet their Sunshine Child, Oscar Comacho. Oscar was thrilled (and the rest of the boys) to receive a PS3 and 2 games from the Ames Chapter. It was put to use that week!

They then traveled to Cedar Rapids Lodge who took them to the CR Kernels game and brought them back to the Lodge for some big, juicy hamburgers. Don Herb escorted them to the game.
Monday they spent at the Iowa City Lodge.. they played the WII, ate, played softball, the WII and ate! Their hotel for the week was the Cantebury Inn in Coralville. The Iowa City Moose Riders and NASCAR group raised the money for the hotel. Thanks to Pat Keil, Dave Beecher and Dave Davis for arranging for the rooms.

Tuesday they came to Chabal's for lunch, then we toured the Rock Island Arsenal. Returning to Iowa City they had supper and were surprised with motorcycle rides. Thanks to Robin Sheely, Dan Monroe, and Shelton Allen for giving the rides. They were a little nervous before but pretty excited after the ride! The day concluded playing basketball at the Iowa Field House.

Wednesday Christine Garling escorted them to the Hoover Birthplace in West Branch and on to Clinton Lodge for lunch. They went to Eagle Point Park then the DNR gave them an Ecotour of the Mississippi River. The boys were all able to take a turn steering the boat and a few of them jumped in the Mississippi River! Yes! they were wearing life jackets! They returned to the Iowa City Lodge for supper and more WII games. The boys felt very comfortable in the Lodge and met a lot of people, and did the same with the other Lodges they visited in all the Lodges.

Thursday, Lloyd escorted them to Fort Madison and Bruce Armstrong took them to the Train Museum and Old Fort Madison for the tour. They ate lunch at the Ft. Madison Lodge and were interviewed by the newspaper,

Dan Wagner took them to a pheasant farm near Burlington. Next was Snake Alley and Burlington Lodge served them supper. Found a basketball and shot some hoops, then watched the beginning of the Lakers/Celtics game. They also met Allison, l who will be entering Mooseheart the end of June. She and her Mother were able to talk with the Family Teachers and get a lot of information.

Friday, Christine escorted them to the Dubuque Lodge. Lunch was at a great Sub Shop (according to all). Tickets were provided to the Mississippi River Museum/Aquarium and the Water Park! They returned to the Iowa City lodge for supper.


Saturday they slept in, then stopped at the Iowa City Lodge for a warm farewell.... the Eastern Nebraska/Iowa Home are looking forward to a trip to Iowa next year.

We want to thank everyone who helped with this trip and made it possible. It's hard to mention names because I know I won't get everyone. The Iowa City Loyal Order of Moose Men (Dan Monroe, Governor), Women of the Moose, (BJ Monroe, Senior Regent), NASCAR, Moose Riders, everyone who brought food in, the cooks and volunteers who cooked special foods for them (especially JJ and his grilled cheese sandwiches!), the Lodges who came up with ideas to entertain them, the Lodges who bought tickets for them to do things..... This is what the Moose is all about! Everyone who contributed in some way, those of you who came out to meet them... God Bless You.

We had our first shadow box winner on Saturday, June 5th. Mr. King of Hearts is Tony Sturgell. Tony’s photo can be seen in the 10 K Raffle Photo Albums. Our second shadow box will start soon. Keep an eye out for the start date.

Our Lodge, along with our sponsor Cub Scout Pack 240 will be preparing a pancake breakfast on Sunday, June 27th from 8:30am till 2pm. All the proceeds will be going to the Cystic Fibrosis Iowa Chapter.
Come hungry and let these young chefs satisfy your hunger pangs at the Moose Lodge. Come and get all the pancakes you care to eat for a suggested $5.00 donation. This is a good time with the Cub Scouts and a good chance to support a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.
